Saturday at Paducah's Street Festival
While you all we listening to the midnight release of the latest song of the week, the Redding Brothers were exhaustedly staggering into the basement den of their friends' house in Paducah, KY where they were staying for the night after their performance at the downtown After Dinner Street Festival. The festival was a big success despite weather issues. It started raining as the band finished up the third song in their set. Friends and crew helped the band pull their equipment back under the awning of a nearby building until the rain subsided just as it was getting dark."We weren't sure the rain was going to stay away, so we thought about just doing a small acoustic set for the rest of the night," said Gabe. "But at the last minute we said, 'hey, what the heck' and dragged everything back out again. Turns out it was well worth it because a ton of people stopped to hear us and buy CDs and posters and everything, and luckily the rain didn't come back."The band also said it was great to meet everyone, including a trucker from Baton Rouge who was visiting Paducah with his wife (who also, incidentally, gave the band a short history lesson on the meaning behind Baton Rouge's name). There was also a couple from Gainesville, FL, who offered to help book the band at a summer festival they have there as well."We really enjoyed the last time we were here for the festival back in May, but this time was even better -- we really enjoyed being able to meet everybody and shaking hands and signing CDs," said Josiah. "We also realized that a lot of the people at the festival were not even from KY -- they were visiting from cities all over the U.S."The band hopes to return to perform at the festival again, if not this year, perhaps next.
