The Summer Lull
Now that it’s summer,
The Redding Brothers have been slowing down somewhat to get some much-needed
rest and relaxation. Of course, we’re still doing sporadic weekend runs out
into the vast expanse of Anytown, USA, with short promo performances, but as
far as the “major concert event” version of Redding Brothers, it’s temporarily
gone into hibernation.
Ahhh,
the troubles of the road: when you’re out driving from city to city, staying up
late at night playing shows until 1:00 a.m., you’re exhausted and ready for
sleep in a nice bed back at home. But when you get home, a few days later you
want to get back out on the road. So it’s a terrible, never-ending cycle.
But
even though the band isn’t out touring as much, we have been keeping busy with
other things. First of all, Gabe’s hand-made lawn-chair book bags, an item from
our concert merchandise table, have been a big hit this summer as well, along
with all of his duct-tape accessories (which are now being officially added to
the Delta-Zeta Sorority’s national catalog), so Gabe has been busy keeping up
with all the orders we’ve been getting for those.
In
addition, something we haven’t discussed in the column yet, is that we launched
a new “Song of the Week” podcast on our website, which we decided to put
together to keep our creative juices flowing. We write, record, and release one
new song on our website every Saturday at midnight (you can subscribe to the
podcast for free at ReddingBrothers.com or on iTunes). We’ve had some
interesting singles come out of the podcast already, so that also keeps us busy
during the week.
Also,
preparations for Micah’s wedding on August 18th are taking up a lot of his
time. Everybody has been chipping-in to get invitations sent out, etc.
With
all of that, The Redding Brothers’ official HQ is in a transition as well, and
we’re in the process of finding a new location here in Nashville to conduct
affairs from.
With
all of this, we’re slowly gearing up for the coming school year, when The
Redding Brothers will be showcasing in at least two regional APCA college conferences in
Little Rock, AR and Houston, TX, which are expected to generate around 40 to 50
college bookings for the band during the coming semester. All together we’re
planning to hit around 60 - 70 colleges this fall and spring, which will
definitely keep us busy from August 2007 through May 2008.
So
in addition to everything else, we’ve been planning and practicing our 15
minute showcase segments, determining which songs to include, and what order,
and what cool tricks to do while on stage (you know us!)
We’ll
keep you updated with the progress on the blog at ReddingBrothers.com. I’ll
tell you more about the wedding, the tour, and the move next month!
The Redding Brothers are an acoustically-driven
rock & roll act from Charleston, WV, now based in Nashville, TN. You can
find out more about the band, purchase concert tickets, and hear samples from
their second album release titled “The Physics of Immortality”, all by visiting
their website at ReddingBrothers.com.
